Jira issue ID and key upon ticket creation via Lema, to connect between the two objects.

1. Create a Dedicated Account for Lema

Lema connects to your Jira Cloud instance using an API key to create and manage issues.

In Jira, an API key must be associated with either a service account or a user account.

While both options are supported, we strongly recommend creating a dedicated service account for Lema.

This ensures all issues created by Lema appear with that account as the Reporter, making it easier to track and audit activity.

Account Types Explained

  1. Service Account - A system-managed account created in the Atlassian Administration panel.

Ideal for integrations and automations, as it’s not tied to an individual user.

  2. User Account - A regular Jira user account.

You can generate an API token for it directly from the Atlassian account’s security settings.

[Option 1] Service account

Follow these steps to create a dedicated service account and generate an API key for Lema:

  1. Sign in to Atlassian Admin

Go to admin.atlassian.com and select your organization.

  1. Create a new service account

Navigate to Directory → Service accounts → Create a service account

Name your service account, use a descriptive name such as lema_app and click “Next”

Look for the target Jira app in the list and assign it a User role (Administrator permissions are not required.)
